Clash Music Premieres Lo Carmen’s “Sometimes It’s Hard” Featuring Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy
NEW YORK — September 26, 2017 — Singer-songwriter Lo Carmen is known for the rustic simplicity and stripped-back honesty of her lyrics — displayed on her new song, “Sometimes It’s Hard,’ featuring Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. The single, taken from her album Lovers Dreamers Fighters, out on vinyl and digital platforms on November 10 through Chiquita Records, premiered yesterday with Clash Magazine. The outlet called the track ” divine,” “a real charmer,” and “a beautifully composed piece of music.” The single will be available on Friday, September 25, on Amazon, Apple Music and Spotify.
Carmen wrote most of the songs for Lovers Dreamers Fighters alone on her porch at night in rural Georgia, although ‘Sometimes It’s Hard’ was written with her husband, Rectify actor Aden Young. Carmen always envisioned Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy joining her for the duet, explaining,”Nobody embodies that idea of tenderness, fortitude and understanding life’s myriad mysteries more than Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy to me – his voice just kills me, and I was beyond thrilled that he sung it with me.”
Lovers Dreamers Fighters, her sixth studio album, was recorded in Nashville at The Butcher Shoppe and Welcome to 1979 Studios. Glide Magazine premiered the first single, “Last Thing I’ll Remember,” noting its “gorgeous twangy pedal steel, sensual vocals, haunting guitar and harmonies, and a drumbeat that conveys a quiet loneliness,” and stating “the album brings together sultry vintage soul and cosmic country sounds for something that is entirely unique. As a singer and songwriter, Carmen is simultaneously reflective and a storyteller.”
Carmen self-produced Lovers Dreamers Fighters, enlisting an all-star team, including engineer David “Ferg” Ferguson (Sturgill Simpson, Johnny Cash), bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, Nikki Lane, Dan Auerbach) and pedal steel maestro Russ Pahl (Sara Watkins, Nathaniel Rateliff, Lana Del Rey), letting her lyrics shine among the slow burning supernatural country arrangements.
Seemingly born with music running through her veins, Carmen composed her first original song at age ten, performing it publicly that night at a New Year’s Eve party at the Town Hall in her native Adelaide, South Australia, and the writing on the wall became clear: music was her destiny. Since 2002, she has recorded five solo albums, as well as a honky tonk-jazz collaboration with her father, Australian country-rock pioneer, pianist Peter Head. She has toured throughout Europe, Australia and the US, opening for a diverse array of artists, as well as showcased at SXSW. She is currently based in Los Angeles.
Lovers Dreamers Fighters is available for pre order via PledgeMusic.
