Radney Foster and Kyle Hutton Announce New EP to Benefit Texas Foster Care
One-hundred percent of proceeds from The Foster EP go to foster care awareness and aid
AUSTIN, Texas — Feb. 20, 2017 — Inspired by the challenges, joys, and realities of the Texas foster care system, The Foster EP brings together Texas legend Radney Foster and singer/songwriter Kyle Hutton on a five-track EP to benefit the Texas foster care system. Set to release March 31, the collection offers four originals co-written by Hutton and Foster as well as a cover of “Amazing Grace,” featuring some of Texas’s most celebrated singer/songwriters. The first single, “A Place To Stay” premiered with Wide Open Country today, and can be heard on radio stations throughout Texas beginning tomorrow.
“Radney Foster and Kyle Hutton have teamed up to make good music for a great cause. Called The Foster EP, the five-song collection sees Foster and Hutton mix and match their talents and pour out their hearts,” Wide Open Country said about the project.
They added, “Besides being a really cool concept, that means you can expect really good songs. Radney Foster, after all, is a legendary writer who’s left his mark on both the Texas and the Nashville worlds.”
Both Hutton’s and Foster’s lives have been directly impacted by the subject matter of these songs. A former foster child who was adopted as an infant, Hutton recently became a foster parent himself, while Foster grew up alongside two adopted siblings. More than 30,000 children currently occupy the Texas foster care system, including 5,000 children who’ve yet to be adopted by a forever family. While awaiting adoption, many of those 5,000 children find themselves sleeping in state buildings. The first single, “Place To Stay,” illustrates many of the problem these children face each day.
“‘A Place to Stay’ is about children in our very own communities that need a home,” Hutton said about the song. “It’s a cry, on their behalf, to Texans out there that I know will open their hearts and homes once they understand the magnitude of the problem.”
With such personal connections to the foster care system, Hutton and Foster — joined by musicians like Austin City Limits Hall of Fame player Lloyd Maines and Texas-based singer/songwriters including Pat Green, Wade Bowen, Roger Creager and Cory Morrow — bring a unique mix of insight, experience, and pure melody to The Foster EP. Filled with acoustic guitar, mandolin, percussion, harmonized vocals and plenty of Telecaster twang, the collection offers a rootsy mix of four originals — all co-written by Foster and Hutton, who share vocal duties throughout the record — and one cover of the Christian staple “Amazing Grace,” the latter song stocked with cameos by several of the pair’s Texas peers.
The Foster EP is both a showcase for two honored songwriters and an educational tool for those looking to make a difference in the foster care system. Already making waves all the way to the Texas State Capitol, First Lady Cecilia Abbott, an adoptive mother and advocate for children in Texas foster care, will join Hutton, Foster and friends on April 2 for a statewide awareness event at the LifeAustin Amphitheater.
